SOUTHRIDGE - PALM SPRINGS, CA
“This House is a work of Art”

Southridge, perched high above Palm Springs, is one of only 19 estates located in the exclusive gated community of Southridge where some of Hollywood's most glamorous celebrities have resided. Steve McQueen and William Holden were once neighbors, and the Hope Estate is just up the hill.

This spectacular house was built in 1964 by the renowned mid-century architect, William Cody, for the Chicago industrialist and inventor, Stanley Goldberg. Cody is known throughout the world for his walls of glass and alcove architecture. In the 1960s, he designed many of the most prestigious country clubs, churches and hotels.

Arthur Elrod designed the original interior, which was featured in Architectural Digest in 1967. The house has been refurbished to reflect Elrod's vision under the guidance of George Machado, a local expert on Modern Design.

Your experience in this remarkable home begins as you walk through the tiled entryway, pass a 20 foot long fountain and ascend to an expansive plateau of impressive architecture.

The living room is spectacular. One wall is marbled in bookmatched, walnut Italian travertine. Expansive sliding glass doors open to a turquoise pool and the view of Palm Springs stretches before you. The fireplace, draped with the original iron mesh curtain, centers the room. A sunken bar, perfect for entertaining, completes the space. Tucked behind it all is a comfortable den and media room, that can be used as a fourth bedroom.

Joan Collins stayed at Southridge in 1999 and her white baby grand piano sits in an alcove off the formal dining room. An arched Lucite headboard in the yellow bedroom has been preserved as a tribute to Ms. Collins where there is a gold metal and glass cocktail table once used in her bedroom on the set of "Dynasty."

There are three king bedroom suites and each have full baths and stunning views. Enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the sunrise from the privacy of your slate patio lined fruit trees. Or take an early morning hike through the surreal landscape -- trails lead right to your door.

Original art fills the house including works by Paul Evans, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Richard Schultz, Eileen Gray, Frieda Koblick, George Nelson, Phyllis Morris, George Belle, George Machado, Arthur Elrod, Steven Jenson, Frank Powolny, James Haspiel, Milton Green, and Sam Shaw.

The real magic of this 4,939 square foot home, though, reveals itself at night. The stars shine above and the lights of Palm Springs shine below and underlit palm trees glow as cocktail music plays.   At night, you can see across the valley and see the cars streaming in on the I-10 Freeway. On the Fourth of July and special events you always have the best seat in town to watch the fireworks.

During the day, you are the first to spot fires across the valley. Seasoned Celebrities know that Southridge offers a few hours of extra tanning time over the Las Palmas, Movie Colony and Mesa areas of Palm Springs in the prized season. And yes, it is a few degrees cooler up on the hill. Hiking and Trail Rides Hiking trails are right outside the back door. You can hike to the top of the mountain. You can also ask the wranglers from Smoketree Stables to bring horses up to the back door to take you on a ride through the Indian Canyons!

A 24 hour Guard at the security gate assures privacy and seclusion for celebrity guests.

Fruit trees abound with Orange, Blood Orange, Grapefruit, Ruby Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Mexican Limes, and the strange Buddah Hand Lemon all grow and harvest fruit throughout the year. A spice garden with rosemary, cilantro, sage, mint and lavender are planted right outside the kitchen door for quick cutting. A rose garden with Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, John F. Kennedy varieties are just a few of the roses planted outside the master bath. In California, we name drop often and even in the garden!

1964 Solid Bones Construction Built on Solid Rock and ahead of it’s time. The combination of inspired architecture, period design and natural beauty make Southridge the quintessential Palm Springs retreat.
